It’s a dirty job, but thousands around the world will try to break the world record for the most diapers changed simultaneously.
Local adults who want to contribute to the Guinness World Record bid can gather April 21 at Northbrook boutique New Mother New Baby. There’s one catch, though.
“They can come in with any kind of diaper … as long as they’re changed into a cloth diaper,” said store employee Susan Urbanski.
The Great Cloth Diaper Change was started last year to bring attention to cloth diapers as an eco-friendly alternative to disposable diapers. The record was established with 5,026 participants worldwide, according to Guinness.
Thirty babies were registered last year, said boutique owner Gail Macklin. About 15 people have registered their babies so far this year at

The official start time is 11:30 a.m, with 16 countries participating, said Heather McNamara, executive director of the San Diego-based Real Diaper Association.
“Some of the countries around the world have to do it in the middle of the night,” she said.
Babies must be no longer than 39 inches. Guinness has no rules about the condition of the diapers.
“If they’re dirty, they’re dirty,” Urbanski said.
