After two months as a fill-in, Anthony Ponce has been named co-anchor of NBC 5 Chicago’s weekend morning newscasts.
Ponce has been working the Saturday and Sunday morning newscasts with Kim Vatis since February, when co-anchor Stefan Holt was shifted to weekdays at WMAQ-Ch.5. The shuffle began when longtime weekday morning anchor Rob Elgas moved to afternoons.
“I am very pleased that Anthony Ponce will now officially become co-anchor of our weekend morning newscasts alongside Kim Vatis,” Frank Whittaker, station manager and vice president of news, said in a statement Wednesday. “Anthony has done a terrific job on the weekends following Stefan Holt’s promotion.”
In other changes, Sunday night anchor Dick Johnson will add Saturdays at 5 and 10 p.m. to his duties, with current anchor Lisa Parker returning full-time to Target 5 reporting. The new lineup will begin May 5.
