This is in response to “Ace the ACT? It’s easier with help; 10% of juniors in Illinois, many at top schools, are given extra time, other assistance to try to boost their test scores” (Page 1, April 29), by Tribune reporter Diane Rado. I have two ADD-diagnosed college kids. They were diagnosed in first grade, long before we were thinking about the ACT.
One child was eligible for extended time only because his individualized education program from first grade allowed it. The other was not eligible. My child who was eligible didn’t even end up using it. It is so hard to get and you have to have a disability diagnosis going back years that is a disability that requires extra testing time.
So come on already with these articles; this is not something that is being abused or even very regularly used, because there are safeguards.
