Pitcher Jason Marquis was designated for assignment Tuesday by the Minnesota Twins.
The right-hander posted an 8.47 ERA in seven starts this season, going 2-4. He allowed 32 earned runs on 52 hits and 14 walks in 34 innings.
The team summoned pitcher Cole DeVries was from Triple-A Rochester, and the righty is expected to start Tuesday at Chicago. In eight starts with the Red Wings, DeVries went 1-4 with a 4.24 ERA. The Minnesota native graduated from Eden Prairie High School and pitched at the University of Minnesota.
