I have to agree with Lou Raizin’s column in the May 24 Perspective section about how the media hurt Chicago in advance of the NATO gathering. There were so many negative reports in all media about traffic, CTA, Metra, road closings and demonstrators that it scared everyone away.
I also blame the many companies and businesses that closed up shop or told employees to stay home.
There’s nothing like fear to destroy a city. I thought it was overkill on the part of so many who should have known better. It made us look like a bunch of wimps, and so small-town-minded.
Mayor Rahm Emanuel wanted to showcase the city. But it seems that many things to show off were closed.
