D-backs’ Montero out until at least Monday
Arizona Diamondbacks catcher Miguel Montero is out at least until Monday with a strained groin muscle, he told reporters Saturday night.
Montero suffered the injury about a week ago.
Montero was an All-Star last season when he hit .282 with 18 home runs and a team-high 86 RBI.
This year, he is batting .252 with two home runs and 21 RBI through 38 games after signing a one-year, $5.9 million deal.
On Saturday, he signed a five-year, $60 million contract extension with the club. The deal will pay him $10 million in 2013, $10 million in 2014, $12 million in 2015, $14 million in 2016 and $14 million in 2017.
