WALL ST FALLS ON DATA, FED HOPES DIM

U.S. stocks fell on Thursday as expectations for swift

stimulus action from the Federal Reserve dimmed and Chinese and

euro zone data pointed to stalling global growth.

The Dow Jones industrial average were down 0.57

percent. The Standard & Poor’s 500 Index were down 0.46

percent. The Nasdaq Composite Index were down 0.69

** ROSETTA GENOMICS LTD, $5.78, up 23 pct (1035 ET)

Brokerage Aegis Capital Corp initiated coverage on the

diagnostic tests maker with a “buy” rating, saying that the

company’s cancer test can become a market leader and could

represent a strategic asset for potential acquirers.

** BIG LOTS INC, $30.66, down 21 pct (1045 ET)

The close-out retailer reported a lower-than-expected

quarterly profit on higher costs and a loss at its Canadian

operations, and cut its full-year adjusted earnings forecast.

** HEWLETT-PACKARD CO, $17.91, down 7 pct (0930 ET)

A host of brokerages cut their price targets on the

company’s stock, after the No. 1 PC maker posted an $8.9 billion

loss and narrowed its full-year earnings outlook, echoing

concerns raised by rival Dell Inc about faltering

demand for PCs.

** GUESS INC, $27.50, down 18 pct (0930 ET)

The U.S. clothing maker slashed its full-year profit

forecast as the company resorts to discounts to clear excess

inventory.

Jefferies & Co cut its price target on the stock.

** A123 SYSTEMS INC, $0.37, down 4 pct (0931 ET)

The lithium-ion battery maker received notice from the

Nasdaq this week that its stock price is too low for exchange

standards and will be delisted if it does not recover to $1 in

the next six months.

** HAIN CELESTIAL GROUP INC, $66.40, up 17 pct

The company said it would buy Premier Foods Plc’s

sweet spreads and jellies business for 200 million pounds ($316

million) to expand in the United Kingdom.

Several analysts raised their target prices on the stock.

** PACIFIC SUNWEAR OF CALIFORNIA INC, $2.35, up 8.5

pct (0933 ET)

The company reported better-than-expected second-quarter

results.

Wedbush Securities Inc raised its target price for the

stock.

** DFC GLOBAL CORP, $18.55, down 7 pct (0935 ET)

The payday lender and pawnbroker reported a quarterly loss

and forecast full-year operating earnings largely below

analysts’ estimates.

** XOMA CORP, $3.08, down 4 pct (0935 ET)

The company filed for mixed shelf of up to $100 million.

** INTERNATIONAL RECTIFIER CORP, $16.97, down 8 pct

The semiconductor maker posted a quarterly loss and forecast

first-quarter revenue well below analysts’ expectations on

slowing demand for its power management chips.

JMP Securities cut its target price for the stock.

** SYNOPSYS INC, $33.42, up 6 pct (0936 ET)

The company reported third-quarter earnings that beat

analysts expectations and forecast better-than-expected full

year earnings on Wednesday.

** KNIGHT CAPITAL GROUP, $2.78, up 0.36 pct (0937

ET)

The financial services firms that rescued Knight Capital

after its near-fatal software glitch earlier this month have

sold some of their preferred stock in the firm to retail online

broker Scottrade.

** JINKOSOLAR HOLDING CO LTD, $2.90, down 2 pct

The Chinese solar company reported a bigger-than-expected

quarterly loss on a sharp fall in selling prices but it forecast

higher panel shipments for the current quarter.

** PATTERSON COMPANIES INC, $34.02, down 5 pct

The company posted first-quarter earnings that missed

analysts expectations.

** A K STEEL HOLDING CORP, $5.74, down 3 pct (0939

Dahlman Rose & Co cut its rating for the stock to “sell”

from “hold.”

** FRED’S INC, $14.04, down 7.6 pct (1004 ET)

The company reported lower-than-expected quarterly earnings,

and forecast a fall in same store sales for the third-quarter.

** Ancestry.com, $30.48, up 1 pct (0940 ET)

Buyout firms, including Permira Advisers LLP and TPG Capital

LP, are now considering whether they should increase their

offers for the family-history research website, after their

previous bids were rejected, Reuters reported quoting sources.

** HERTZ GLOBAL HOLDINGS INC, $12.85, up 3.6 pct

Hertz, trying to bring life to a stalled deal for Dollar

Thrifty has begun asking shareholders for the price at which

they would sell the company, Bloomberg News reported.

** TILLY’S INC, $18.61, up 12 pct (0946 ET)

The company reported increased second-quarter sales and

forecast better-than-expected full-year earnings.

Stifel Nicolaus upgraded the stock to “buy” from “hold” and

Roth Capital Partners raised its target price on the stock.

** FEDERATED INVESTORS INC, $21.73, up 5 pct (0949

ET)

A bid by Securities and Exchange Commission Chairman Mary

Schapiro to impose extra rules on the $2.4 trillion US money

market mutual funds industry was blocked by a majority of the

commission’s members.

** ADVANTAGE OIL & GAS LTD , $3.60, up 10

pct (0952 ET)

The company said it hired RBC Capital Markets to sell its

non-core assets and its full stake in Longview Oil Corp

.

** BROADWIND ENERGY INC, $2.05, up 10 pct (0955 ET)

The company said its common stock will begin trading on

split-adjusted basis from August 23.

** TOWERSTREAM CORP, $3.79, up 12 pct (0958 ET)

The company reported a rise in second-quarter revenue.

** VANGUARD HEALTH SYSTEMS INC, $10.05, up 6.6 pct

The company reported fourth quarter results that beat

analysts’ expectations, and forecast better-than-expected full

year earnings.

** SAFEWAY INC, $15.14, down 5 pct (1025 ET)

Jefferies & Co cut its rating for the stock to “hold” from

“buy,” and cut its target price for the stock.

** ADTRAN INC, $20.97, down 8 pct (1028 ET)

Credit Suisse downgraded shares of to “underperform” from

“neutral”, and cut the price target on the stock, Dow

Jones-owned MarketWatch said.

** CADENCE PHARMACEUTICALS INC, $4.25, up 6.6 pct

The company said the federal court of Delaware adopted a

majority of the pharmaceutical company’s patent definitions for

its pain and fever injection Ofirmev.

Cadence sued Perrigo Company, Paddock Laboratories

Inc and Exela Pharma Sciences LLC for the infringement of two

patents in Aug 2011. The trial date has been set for May 20,

2013.
