Rockies 10, Dodgers 0: Tyler Colvin homered and drove in three runs while Jeff Francis combined with three relievers on a four-hit shutout as host Colorado spoiled Josh Beckett’s debut with Los Angeles.
Chris Nelson scored three runs while falling a homer shy of the cycle and DJ LeMahieu had two RBIs for the Rockies, who have won six of eight at home.
Acquired from Boston in a blockbuster nine-player trade on Saturday, Beckett (0-1) fell behind early as his second pitch of the game was drilled into the right-field seats by Colvin. The right-hander allowed three runs and seven hits over 5 2/3 innings as he remained winless since July 15.
Nelson hit a two-out triple and scored in the fourth, then singled and came home in the sixth to make it 3-0. His one-out double ignited a seven-run rally in the eighth that was highlighted by Colvin’s two-run triple and rookie Wilin Rosario’s two-run homer.
Rosario’s blast was his 21st of the season, a franchise record for a catcher. Charles Johnson belted 20 homers with the Rockies in 2003.
Francis (5-4) yielded a single and two doubles over five innings, walking one and striking out six. Josh Roenicke worked a hitless frame, Rex Brothers allowed a hit in a 1 1/3 innings and Matt Belisle recorded the final five outs for his second save.
Colorado’s Josh Rutledge continued his success as a pinch hitter, delivering an RBI single in the sixth. The rookie is 5-for-8 with five RBIs in the role.
Shane Victorino tripled and stole a base for the Dodgers, who fell 2 1/2 games behind both idle San Francisco in the National League West and St. Louis in the race for the second wild-card spot.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Colorado OF Dexter Fowler was kept out of the starting lineup for the fifth straight game due to an ankle injury. … Beckett lost for the first time in five career starts at Coors Field. … The Dodgers optioned Shawn Tolleson to Single-A Rancho Cucamonga and recalled fellow RHP Josh Wall from Triple-A Albuquerque. Wall made his major-league debut at New York on July 22, picking up the win after tossing one scoreless inning against the Mets. … Rockies SS Troy Tulowitzki (groin) went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and 1B Jason Giambi (viral infection) was 2-for-3 for Double-A Tulsa on Monday. Both could be activated from the disabled list as early as Saturday.
