A 17-year-old has been charged with killing another teen who was with his mother and brother outside of a laundromat in the Back of the Yards neighborhood, police said.

Alan Padilla, of the 5000 block of South Michigan Avenue was charged with first-degree murder and and was ordered held without bond on Monday, officials said.

Padilla is charged with shooting Jalen C.J. Stogner, 17, who was shot outside of the laundromat on the 4800 block of South Ashland Avenue, police said.

Marla Stogner, Jalen’s mother said she, Jalen and his 4- and 11-year-old brothers had just arrived at the laundromat in the 4800 block of South Ashland Avenue when the gunman and Jalen exchanged words in the parking lot. The confrontation lasted a few seconds before the assailant pulled a handgun from his waistband and shot her son, Stogner said.

Jalen Stogner stumbled into the laundromat before collapsing and losing consciousness, his mother said.

He was pronounced dead at Stroger Hospital in Chicago at 5:11 p.m., less than an hour after he was shot, officials said.
