Former Chicago Cubs broadcaster Bob Brenly was named the TV analyst for the Arizona Diamondbacks on Thursday, a move that was expected after he announced his departure from WGN-Ch. 9 the day before.
The Diamondbacks also hired ESPN host Steve Berthiaume as the play-by-play man. The pair will not be introduced officially until Nov. 5 so that Berthiaume can work through the World Series.
Brenly, 58, the former manager of the Diamondbacks, still makes his home in the Phoenix area. His son, Michael, is a catcher in the Cubs’ organization.
Brenly replaces former Cubs first baseman Mark Grace, who did not return after a late-season arrest for DUI. He also was driving on a license that was suspended for an earlier DUI.
