Untsa: A reader asked Tribune critic Phil Vettel the meaning of the word “untsa,” which he has used in two reviews recently. “‘Untsa’ is a word I coined,” Vettel replied. “It’s my vocalization of the backbeat accompanying club music, that vocals-free dance-beat stuff ubiquitous in nightclubs and, increasingly, in restaurants aiming for a nightclub vibe. Say the word rhythmically, four times in succession, swallowing the first syllable until it’s almost a gulp and making the second syllable as sibilant as possible; the vowel sounds are more implied than vocalized. That should do it.”
