01/20/2013 NFL Note – Kansas City Chiefs Muir, Daniel
DT Daniel Muir was signed to a contract for 2013 by the Chiefs. Muri originally entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the Green Bay Packers in 2007. He has appeared in 46 games (26 starts) in six seasons with Green Bay (2007), Indianapolis (2008-11) and the New York Jets (2012), recording 111 tackles (88 solo), 0.5 sacks (-5.0 yards) and one pass defensed. He has started all four postseason games he’s appeared in, recording 16 tackles (11 solo) and 1.0 sack (-5.0 yards), including starting Super Bowl XLIV vs. New Orleans as a member of the Colts. Muir was a four-year letterman at Kent State (2003-06), playing in 46 games with 45 starts, accumulating 198 career tackles, including 35 for loss, 14.5 sacks, three forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and one interception. The Lanham, Md., native, was a four-year letterman at Parkdale High School in Riverdale, Md., as both a defensive tackle and offensive guard.

NFL Note – New England Patriots Forston, *Marcus
DL Marcus Forston was signed by the Patriots to the 53-man roster from the practice squad Saturday. Forston, 22, was originally signed by the Patriots as a rookie free agent on May 10, 2012 out of Miami. The 6-foot-3, 305-pounder, made the 53-man roster rout of training camp and was inactive for the first two games of the 2012 season before making his NFL debut at Baltimore on Sept. 23. He was released on Sept. 26 and signed to the practice squad on Sept. 28. He replaces tight end Rob Gronkowski, who went on reserve/injured earlier in the week, on the roster.

NFL Note – * Free Agents Cundiff, Billy
K Billy Cundiff was waived by the 49ers Friday. Cundiff had been signed by the 49ers on January 1, 2013 and was inactive for the team’s Divisional Playoff game versus Green Bay. He has played in 106 games, connecting on 139 of 184 (75.5%) field goal attempts and 217 PATs, over the course of his NFL career.

NFL Note – Washington Redskins Morgan, Josh
WR Josh Morgan underwent surgery on his right leg Friday, and sent out a picture through Instagram of himself in a hospital bed with a cast on the leg.
Morgan, who had 48 receptions for 510 yards and two touchdowns during the regular season, his first with the Redskins after signing a two-year, $11.5 million deal.
It wasn’t immediately known what the surgery was for, although the fifth-year veteran missed 11 games in 2011 after breaking his right leg and tearing ligaments. He played much of the 2012 season at less than 100 percent.
Morgan tweeted: “Surgery was a Success… Painful but worth it… Thank you god … Time to heal and get back doing me like I really do #HTTR.”

NFL Note – Atlanta Falcons Jones, Julio
WR Julio Jones’ two touchdown receptions were the most by a Falcon in a single postseason game since WR Terance Mathis had two TD receptions at Minnesota (1/17/99) in the NFC Championship game. Jones is just the third receiver in team history to record multiple touchdown catches in a single playoff game.
Jones’ 135 receiving yards in the first half were the most in franchise history in the first half of a playoff game. Additionally, he is the first Falcon receiver to record 100 receiving yards in the first half of a playoff game.

NFL Note – Atlanta Falcons Gonzalez, Tony
TE Tony Gonzalez, a 13-time Pro Bowler, posted his best playoff performance with eight catches for 78 yards and one touchdown. Gonzalez also caught touchdown passes in each of the Falcons postseason games this season. He maintained after the game that he is likely to retire.

NFL Note – San Francisco 49ers Jenkins, A.J.
A day after WR Chad Hall was promoted from the practice squad, he appeared against Atlanta. The team’s first-round pick, WR A.J. Jenkins, did not. It’s clear the staff does not believe Jenkins can be a meaningful contributor — at least not this year.

WR Michael Crabtree’s 57 receiving yards against the Falcons were his fewest in six games. They were also 54 more than he had in the last year’s NFC title game.

QB Colin Kaepernick joins Joe Montana and Steve Young as quarterbacks that have led the 49ers to the Super Bowl. He carried just twice for 21 yards against the Falcons.

RB Stevan Ridley left in the fourth quarter of the title game with a head injury, after he appeared to get knocked out on a big blow to the head from Ravens safety Bernard Pollard. Ridley fumbled on the play. He did not return and did not speak to reporters afterwards.

WR Wes Welker had eight catches for a game-high 117 yards and a touchdown in the season-ending loss.

NFL Note – Atlanta Falcons White, Roddy
WR Roddy White, with seven catches for 100 yards, notched his first career 100-yard game in the postseason. White and Jones also became the first teammates to post 100 receiving yards in a single playoff game in franchise history. Including playoffs, White and Julio Jones have topped the century mark in the same game four times, including twice this season.
In five career playoff games, White has 34 receptions and 369 yards. He surpassed Terance Mathis’ franchise record of 322 career postseason receiving yards and is now the Falcons all-time postseason leader in receptions (34) and yards (369).
