The U.S. Federal Reserve on Tuesday left key interest rates unchanged and said it will continue its stimulus-focused bond buying, but predicted improvements in the job market and general economic conditions in the near future.

The positive outlook, which hinted the Fed may raise interest rates and taper its stimulus program, prompted the Dow Jones industrials to drop to session lows immediately after the announcement.
