Mayor Rahm Emanuel should be applauded for dropping the proposed deal to privatize Midway Airport when it became clear that the bidding process would not be competitive, creating significant potential for taxpayers to get saddled with a bad deal. Having clear criteria for privatization deals is critical to preventing a repeat of the parking meters fiasco.

Now, the mayor should help ensure that criteria like a competitive bidding process are always part of a privatization deal by calling on the Chicago City Council to adopt the proposed Privatization Transparency and Accountability Ordinance.
