On the offensive: Nathan Scheelhaase had his grittiest performance of the season, standing tall in the face of constant pressure. He threw two interceptions, but had 288 yards passing with two touchdowns. He also ran for 46 yards and was the reason Illinois was in the game at all.
Getting defensive: Another game, another 200-yard rusher Illinois allowed. Carlos Hyde’s 246 yards made him the fifth opposing running back to gain at least 200 yards against Illinois. Quarterback Braxton Miller almost joined him, rushing for 184.
The number: 105. Receiving yards for Steve Hull, making him the first Illinois receiver since A.J. Jenkins in 2011 to have at least 100 in consecutive games.
They’re still talking about: The Buckeyes failed to put away Illinois until late, not winning many style points with their victory.
Looking ahead: If the Illini’s Big Ten losing streak comes to an end before next season, it will happen Saturday at hapless Purdue.
