Suzanne Degnan, 6, was kidnapped from her bedroom and strangled by University of Chicago student William Heirens, 17, on Jan. 7, 1946. Her dismembered body was found in several sewers across the city. Heirens, who was a prolific robber, was known as the “Lipstick Killer” when police found the words “For heaven’s sake, catch me before I kill more. I cannnot control myself” written in lisptick on the wall of the home of murdered woman Frances Brown, 33, on Dec. 10, 1945. Heirens had also murdered Josephine Ross, 43, in seperate crimes in 1945. Heirens was convicted of killing the two woman and Degnan and spent his entire life in jail, dying in 2012.
