The Rams selected Zac Stacy, a 5-foot-8, 224-pound running back, in the fifth round of this year’s draft after he became the all-time leading rusher at Vanderbilt. He was used sparingly at the start of the season with just one carry through the first four games before supplanting Daryl Richardson as the starter.
Stacy is second behind the Packers’ Eddie Lacy among rookies with 537 yards and three touchdowns, and he has carried for 323 yards in the last three games. In stature, he’s like the Jaguars’ Maurice Jones-Drew, an inch taller and 14 pounds bigger, and his compact frame makes him difficult for defenders to tackle.
“He’s more of an inside runner and he has more power than you would think just looking at him,” an NFC scout said. “He’s not a big guy but he still can run you over and he also can outrun you. Surprisingly, he can do both. But he’s not going to get the corner on you all of the time or with consistency and he is more of an off-tackle/inside runner. I thought Richardson was more complete as a back but he wasn’t playing well and this kid has kind of taken off for them.”
