SHANGHAI, Jan 14 (Reuters) – China’s yuan opened
at a record high 6.0415 per dollar on Tuesday after the central
bank put the guidance midpoint rate at an all-time high.
The new high follows a record 6.0424 on Monday as the
People’s Bank of China guided the currency into stronger
territory in response to a slide in the dollar index due
to surprisingly soft employment data.
The dollar index slid again slightly in overnight trade.
Traders expect the yuan’s robust momentum to continue with
2-3 percent appreciation seen for the year, given improved
fundamentals and a trade surplus in China.
