Islanders’ Harmonic suspended for instigating fight
New York Islanders defenseman Travis Hamonic was suspended without pay for one game for instigating a fight during the final five minutes of his team’s 6-2 loss to the New Jersey Devils on Saturday at Nassau Coliseum.
Hamonic went after Devils left winger Ryan Carter at 15:23 of the third, earning a minor penalty for instigation, a major penalty for fighting and a game misconduct.
Under NHL rules, the suspension is automatic when a player instigates a fight in the final five minutes of a game.
Hamonic will forfeit $19.78K in salary. New York Islanders coach Jack Capuano was also fined $10K.
