Potholes might be a blessing to the inner city and its environs this summer. With a shortage of manpower to mend such potholes, though the funds exist, why not recruit inner city youth?
Current municipal laborers could be recruited to tutor students in the city’s worst areas to mend such a ubiquitous problem. Each alderman has a surplus fund reserved to use at his or her discretion. Why not take part of those funds or even campaign reserves and hire local students to help eliminate such an urban hazard for motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians?
Surely there are funds to help thwart a summer of violence by heading off such actions with a positive resolution. By employing youth, the city keeps such a demographic busy along with a summer income. Such an introduction to neighborhood responsibility benefits everyone overall.
