Ego Ferguson, defensive tackle
School: LSU
Round 2: 51st overall
Height-weight: 6-3, 315 pounds
On the field: As a junior last season, Ferguson contributed 58 total tackles with 31/2 for loss and one sack, showing signs of improvement in his first year as a starter.
Upside: Ferguson has good footwork and can be active in the interior as either a nose tackle or three technique. He can be tough against the run and can occupy multiple blockers. Physically, he has a good combination of size and athleticism and may benefit working under new Bears defensive line coach Paul Pasqualoni.
Downside: Raw. Very raw. Ferguson was only a starter for one season and wasn’t extremely productive throughout his college career, contributing only one sack during three seasons at LSU. He is said to need more core strength and a better understanding of how to use his hands.
Most resembles: WalterFootball.com likened Ferguson to Rocky Bernard, who played 11 years for the Seahawks and Giants.
Will Sutton, defensive tackle
School: Arizona State
Round 3: 82nd overall
Height-weight: 6-0, 303 pounds
On the field: Sutton was the Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year in both 2012 and 2013. Last season, he compiled 48 tackles, 131/2 for loss and four sacks. He had 231/2 tackles for loss and 13 sacks the previous year.
Upside: Sutton has quick feet and a burst off the snap and has shown a consistent ability to make plays in the backfield. He has proven pass rush ability and his body control and understanding of leverage help him overcome any size deficiency.
Downside: He’s on the smaller side for his position. Arms measured at just 311/4-inch long at the NFL scouting combine. Has a reputation for displaying inconsistent effort.
Most resembles: CBSSports.com compared Sutton to Geno Atkins, another smaller and quick-footed defensive tackle who was a fourth-round pick in 2010 and went to Pro Bowls in 2011 and 2012.
