Perhaps in a reference to Earl Sweatshirt’s composed energy during his earlier set, Schoolboy Q made it clear that his show would be a chill-free zone by announcing, “This ain’t gonna be one of these cool guy sets. I’m here to turn it up!”

With an opening DJ set of recent rap hits and some tunes from his Top Dawg Entertainment labelmate Kendrick Lamar, Q absolutely laid waste to the stage, focusing on delivering knockout after knockout from albums “Habits and Contradictions” and 2014’s “Oxymoron.”
Q’s likeability comes from his charismatic approach to his music, a character trait that comes to life when he hits the stage. While he’ll probably get lost in the shuffle when it comes to Pitchfork “best and worst of the weekend” lists, know that he killed it. If he comes to a town near you, don’t hesitate to grab tickets.
