Duke University and Environmental Working Group researchers tested 22 mothers and 26 children (ages 1-5) for a variety of chemicals and found evidence of two compounds used as flame retardants. Scientists believe children have higher exposure because they spend more time on the floor, where the chemicals accumulate.
