The NEW chicagotribune.com: Your questions answered

June 13, 2011 | Chicagotribune.com’s new look | What do you think? | Newspaper changes

Q: What’s been changed?

Click here Click here for a quick look at the changes.

Q: Are the same types of news and information still available?

A: Yes. We haven’t changed the kinds of information we offer, but we have put more emphasis on breaking news, sports and business. We have also added a breaking entertainment section.

Q: The site is looking strange, as if not all parts of it have loaded, or I am getting parts of the old design loading with the new design.

A: Many Web browsers cache pages to reduce the amount of data that needs to be sent each time a site is loaded. To ensure you are seeing the most recent version of a site, you need to clear your cache. You can often clear your cache by simply holding down the CONTROL key and the F5 key at the same time. If that doesn’t work, you can find instructions on how to clear your cache for most browsers by clicking here.

Q: How do I get to the breaking news, sports and business blogs?

A: The blogs are being moved into chicagotribune.com, rather than remaining as stand-alone sites. You can reach them on chicagotribune.com at breaking news, breaking business, and breaking sports.

Q: How do I find the columnists?

A: There is a link to the columnists page in the navigation at the top of the site under the “Opinions” tab. Appropriate blogs and columns also are located in each section of the site.

Q: Where is the stock market ticker that used to be on the home page?

A: It can be found on the business section front.

Q: Where can I find the weather?

A: The weather can be found on the home page of the site in the right-hand rail near the top of the page. You can also click on “weather” in the navigation area to go directly to the weather page.

Q: I can’t find some of my favorite content, including horoscopes and Ask Amy.

A: Links to both can be found in the navigation at the top of the home page. You can also reach horoscopes here and Ask Amy here.

Q: I can no longer find the Living section on the site.

A: All content from the living section is still available, but it has been moved to other areas of the site: Health is now part of the News section, Food and Dining is part of the Entertainment section, and Home and Garden has been moved to Real Estate.

Q: Can I still get news updates by e-mail?

A: Yes, our e-mail services continue. If you don’t already receive Daywatch, BizWrap, Tribune Alerts, or any of our other newsletters and alerts, you can sign up by clicking here.

Q: How do I get to ChicagoPOINTS on the new site design?

A: You can find a link to ChicagoPOINTS in the footer of the site or you can click here.

Q: Do you recommend any particular browser to use for chicagotribune.com?

A: The site functions with any browser, but we recommend that if you are currently using Internet Explorer 6.0, you upgrade to Internet Explorer 7.0 or later. You can do so by clicking here.

Q: Do I have to register to use some of the site’s features?

A: Yes, some of the features such as commenting on stories require registration. You also will have to register to sign up for e-mail newsletters. To register, click here.

Q: If I’m already registered, do I need to re-register?

A: No, if you are currently a registered user, you will continue to be a registered user for the site. There is no need to take any further action. But you do have to log onto the site using the e-mail address you registered with and your password. Click here to get started.

Q: Where can I find contact information for the Chicago Tribune and chicagotribune.com?

A: You can find information on how to get in touch with us here.

Q: How do I find particular newspaper articles on the site?

A: Many of the articles from the print edition of the Chicago Tribune appear on chicagotribune.com, but not always in the same format or length as in print. When looking for print edition articles on search engines or at chicagotribune.com/search, it is best to search for key phrases or bylines rather than exact headlines. Headlines for the Web are often different because of different space, context and Web requirements.

Q: Can I find the entire print version of Chicago Tribune online?

A: The e-edition is an online reproduction of the Tribune’s print edition available
by subscription.

Q: How do I subscribe to the print edition of the Chicago Tribune?

A: The print edition of Chicago Tribune can be found in the Chicago area at newsstands and
by subscription.

Q: How do I find articles that are more than 30 days old?

An archive of articles can be searched, and individual articles can be purchased, through
Proquest. Print edition articles can also be found through vendors such as Lexis-Nexis, Dow Jones/Factiva and NewsBank by subscribing to these services or accessing databases made available at public, school and university libraries, as well as through Web-based services such as Press Display
