Hopefuls for Downers Grove mayor or one of three council positions in 2015 can get started with the paperwork.

Those interested can now pick up statements of candidacy and nominating petitions at the village clerk’s office at 801 Burlington Avenue. Candidates must collect at least 50 signatures to be eligible.

The seats held by Mayor Martin T. Tully and commissioners Becky Rheintgen, Sean P. Durkin and Geoff Neustadt will be decided in the April 7 consolidated election. A primary election will be held on Feb. 24 if more than four people file to run for mayor and/or more than 12 people file for the commissioner positions.

Tully is in his first term as mayor after having served two terms as a council member. Neustadt is in his second term as commissioner as serves as Mayor Pro Tem. Durkin was appointed to the council in 2006 and is now in his second elected term as commissioner. Rheintgen is in her first term on the council.

In the 2013 election, Commissioner Bob Barnett was re-elected for a second term while Greg Hosé and David S. Olsen were elected to their first terms.

Nominating petitions for the 2015 election must be turned into the village clerk’s office between Nov. 17-24, between the hours or 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.
