TRIBLOCAL PRINT EDITION LAUNCHES TODAY IN 8 CHICAGO SUBURBS
Tabloid offers mix of reader contributions and reported
stories from triblocal.com
CHICAGO, August 16, 2007–Beginning today, some Chicago
Tribune readers will receive the new Triblocal print edition.
Following the launch of triblocal.com earlier this year, hundreds
of citizens registered to post photos, stories and events from
their hometowns. This content, along with enhanced coverage from
Triblocal editorial staff, is used to develop two weekly print
publications serving the West and Southwest suburbs.
The tabloid is distributed with both single-copy and
home-delivery issues of the Thursday Chicago Tribune in the
communities of Batavia, Geneva, St. Charles, Elburn, Maple Park,
Orland Park, Orland Hills, Tinley Park and Homer Glen in the
Southwest suburbs. It reaches a total distribution of more than
23,000 copies. Triblocal is published by Chicagoland Publishing
Company, a subsidiary of Chicago Tribune Company.
“We’re really pleased with the citizen engagement we’ve had so
far and hope the publication will continue to foster this sense
of community and collaboration,” said Kyle Leonard, Triblocal
editor. “We’re sure many contributors will be proud to see their
stories and photos in print.”
The debut issue includes a story about the St. Charles East High
School band trip to China and their concert on the Great Wall, a
story from a local Batavia businessman on how bridge work has
hurt business, and a story from a man walking across U.S. to
raise money for Marklund, a local facility that cares for
disabled kids and back to school stories in Orland-Tinley area.
Each issue also includes a center-spread calendar of local events
for the week ahead.
“Triblocal serves community members who want to know about news
and events that are really close to home and advertisers who want
to reach this burgeoning audience in the outer suburbs,” said Ted
Biedron, president and general manager of Chicagoland Publishing
Company. “Early response from both has been very positive and
we’re thrilled to be able to better serve this market.”
