Welcome to Bears Brain Teasers 2014, where we challenge skills you thought were useless once you left elementary school.

Jay Cutler loves to pass. It’s Matt Forte’s job to run. For this week’s question, they’ll work together. Here’s the scenario.

Question: A race course is plotted for Forte. It’s the exact length of Cutler’s career passing yards through Week 2’s win over San Francisco. Assuming he runs his top speed the entire time, how long will it take Forte to reach the finish line? Round up to the nearest second.

How fast can Forte run, you may ask? Well, that’s officially on the NFL’s books; you just might have to COMBINE some brain cells to figure it out.

Answer: Matt Forte would run the 24,462 yards (Jay Cutler’s career passing yards) in 45 minutes, 27 seconds, assuming he keeps up his pace of 40 yards every 4.46 seconds he set at the NFL combine.

How we got there: Matt Forte’s speed averages out to 8.97 yards per second. Divide 24,462 by 8.97 and you get a little more than 2,727 seconds. Divide 2,727 by 60 and you get 45 minutes (2,700 seconds) with 27 seconds remaining. (Editor’s note: The answer will vary slighly depending on how many decimal places were used.)

Thanks to all who entered, and look for the next challenge later this week!
