Defense stands tall: The swarming Irish defense kept up its aggressive play, blitzing quarterback Terrel Hunt and stuffing the Orange’s running game. Freshman defensive end Andrew Trumbetti had several big plays up front, and cornerback Matthias Farley came up with an interception.
Robinson emerging: Receiver Corey Robinson, who was limited in the first three games because of a fractured right thumb, still was wearing a cast but made eight catches. He had five entering the game.
Fuller doing it all: Fellow receiver Will Fuller continued to be a go-to target for Golson, scoring both Irish touchdowns in the first half. Fuller took a 23-yard screen to the house, followed by a 72-yard bomb. He finished with 119 yards.
Hunter makes his debut: Sophomore receiver Torii Hunter Jr., who has had an injury-riddled career at Notre Dame, saw his first action. He made the most of it, scoring a touchdown on a 13-yard pass in the fourth quarter.
