A Waukegan man is facing criminal charges after police say he shot a man while trying to intervene in an argument Sunday.

Waukegan police responded to a call of a shooting about 12:30 p.m. in the 2500 block of Village Park Drive.

Police said a man and woman had been arguing in the parking lot of an apartment complex when Milton Whittington, 58, tried to intervene and shot the man in the abdomen. The man was taken to an area hospital where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Whittington, who lives in the 2500 block of Village Park Drive and is also a relative of the woman involved in the quarrel, was later arrested and charged with aggravated battery and aggravated battery with a firearm, according to the police.

Whittington was later released from the Lake County Jail on $100,000 bail, police said.
