Andrew’s idea:
A public biology lab where “average Chicagoans can try answering simple questions they run into and have the guidance to turn their big ideas in biotechnology into reality.”
>> Contrary to what you might think, Andrew says biotechnology is for everyone. “You want to know if your California roll is real crab? You should have access to a PCR to determine the DNA in that mystery meat. You want to make fine art with bacteria or fungi? You should have access to incubators and bacterial cultures,” he said.
>> Andrew is finishing his Ph.D. program, but still finds time to be active outside the lab. “I really enjoy being involved in my community, so I’m a volunteer at Science Club in the Boys and Girls Club in Uptown and a core organizer of the Chiditarod,” he said.
