Kora, the 2- to 3-year-old pit bull who was found near death after being locked in an apartment for a month, is making a steady recovery.
According to Stephanie Paluch, the president and co-founder of Players for Pits, which rescued Kora, she is gaining about five pounds a week and is brushing up on her socialization skills.
Her medical prognosis is also promising. Her open sores have healed and her fur is slowly coming back.
Paluch says that a Pet Supplies Plus store in Wheaton donated some high-quality food that has not only beefed Kora up, but helped clear up some skin issues.
“She seems to love the dogs in her foster home and just recently started coexisting with them in more of a natural dog behavior,” Paluch said in an email. “She is also learning obedience with the help of the pack and copies their behaviors, which has also led her to do 90 percent better with potty training.”
Paluch said the plan is to start Kora on hydrotherapy, which will help alleviate stress on her joints as she gains weight. There will also be professional training in the hopes of Kora passing the Canine Good Citizenship test.
Last week, Kora got a visit from the humane investigator who found her Sept. 16. It was a sweet reunion — see the attached video.
