During the NFL season, former Bears fullback Jason McKie shares his football knowledge and opinions with RedEye—always in sets of four.
This week we asked him to give us four reasons to watch the Bears the rest of this season. Given the disaster that has unfolded the first nine games, that was a tough task indeed. Still, if you find yourself compelled to turn on the game every week, this can help prevent you from burning everything you own that’s orange and blue.
FIRST DOWN
Matt Forte is must-see TV.
“He’s the most dynamic back in the NFL. Not a lot of backs have his ability to be effective in the running game but be even more effective in the passing game, and I wish Marc Trestman was smart enough to see that he needs to utilize Matt Forte even more.”
SECOND DOWN
Let’s see how much heart they have.
“I’d like to see how they respond from an embarrassing season thus far. Will they finish strong and give us some momentum into next season?”
THIRD DOWN
Get excited about draft prospects!
“They’re setting themselves up for the draft, seeing what weaknesses they have and what holes need to be addressed via the draft. If they continue to lose, it will improve our draft order, and the draft is here in Chicago. [Laughs.]”
FOURTH DOWN
Your job is on the line, Coach
“I think if Marc Trestman finishes off strong, he’ll still be there. I think Mel Tucker’s gone either way. But I think if they finish up bad or continue to lose the way they have been, then Trestman could be out of there, too.”
BONUS DOWN
Haven’t we heard this before?
“We should watch to see if Marc Trestman’s press conferences change or if we should just watch the same tape from the first conference, because that’s what he does, he just repeats everything.”
RedEye special contributor Jason McKie can be heard on 87.7 FM The Game from 8-10 a.m. Sundays.
