1. He is a cancer survivor. In 2006, he suffered a sore back and was put on the disabled list. Soon thereafter he was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphona. After treatment he is now cancer free. In 2012, he started the NVRQT Campaign to support children’s cancer research.

2. He loves to hunt and fish. He told outdoorhub.com: “I’m looking forward to taking my son hunting with me. … I want him to learn about the good people in this world who come from families that hunt and fish together.”

3. The Red Sox selected Jon Lester with the 57th overall pick in the 2002 draft out of Bellarmine Prep in Tacoma, Wash.

4. He and his wife, Farrah, have two sons: Hudson and Walker.

5. He has his own wine label: CabernAce. The proceeds go to charity.
