As a “millennial,” I was shocked to read that people in my generation are embracing conservative ideals because they are worried about getting cheap cab rides and takeout.

It’s simply untrue, and my friends and I certainly aren’t flocking to the GOP.

When I talk to my friends, they’re deeply concerned that serious economic and social inequality is getting more and more ingrained into American society. And with dysfunction in Springfield and in Washington, they’re using outside-the-box thinking and technology, including apps, to tackle issues that elected officials won’t.

I’ve never heard anyone in my generation say that the country’s most difficult problems can be erased with the touch of a button. We understand that these issues have a long and complicated history and probably won’t be solved in our lifetime. But we’re trying to use new tools and technology to do our small part to address them.

Instead of condemning millennials for reading the newspaper online and not in print, I’d hope that older generations will join in that effort.
