Chicago Fire goalkeeper Sean Johnson was among 23 players named Saturday to the U.S. men’s national team roster for upcoming friendlies against Chile and Panama.
U.S. coach Jurgen Klinsmann announced the roster, which also includes goalkeepers Nick Rimando (Real Salt Lake) and Jon Kempin (Sporting Kansas City).
The U.S. men were scheduled to travel to Santiago, Chile on Saturday in advance of Wednesday’s game at Estadio El Teniente in Rancagua. The U.S. will meet Panama on Sunday, Feb. 8 in Carson, Calif.
“These guys have put in a lot of work these past two weeks of training for what is essentially their preseason, and now it’s time to focus on getting a result against a difficult opponent in Chile,” Klinsmann in an statement from U.S. Soccer. “We know it’s going to be a challenging situation, but these are the types of opportunities we need to keep growing.”
Johnson, 25, has been in the U.S. national team camp since Jan. 12. He’s joined at camp by Fire goalkeepers coach Aron Hyde. Johnson will start his sixth Fire season in 2015.
Fourteen different Major League Soccer teams are represented on the roster.
