Open house: Everyone is invited to the annual Faith Evangelical Lutheran School and Preschool Open House from 8:30 to 11 a.m. and from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Feb. 5, 12 and 19 and from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Feb. 22 at 1275 Main St. Faith offers both early childhood (ages 3 to 5) and elementary programs (kindergarten to 8th grade). Competition: Woodland Middle School eighth-grader Saranya Menon won the Middle School Spelling Bee. For the second year in a row, Saranya will represent the school at the sectional contest to be held Feb. 17.

Performance: Mundelein High School’s show choirs, Sound, a mixed choir, Lights, the all-female choir, and SoundFX, the all-male choir, will present a preview of their competition-ready shows in a concert at 7 p.m. Feb. 5 at 7 p.m. at 1350 W. Competition: Mechanics Grove and Carl Sandburg Middle Schools Lego Leagues recently competed at the University of Illinois in the state’s first Lego League State Tournament. The tournament held 64 teams and both school teams placed in the top half in the robot scores. Mechanics Grove’s Dream Team won the Ambassador’s Award, which means the school will represent the First Lego League organization in the Lake County area. The DREAM Teams (District 75 Robotics Engineering and Math) from Mechanics Grove and Carl Sandburg Middle School build robots and design programs to complete challenges that are assigned for teams around the world As part of the robotics league, students learn skills like computer programming, complete math calculations and problem solve to steer their Lego machines through a set of skills that includes picking up objects to moving around an obstacle course.
Donation: The Kirk Players awarded the Mundelein School District 75 PTO a check for $500 recently. The art teachers from all three schools have agreed to use the funds to purchase a movable art board to use at concerts.
