An Elgin man is accused of fleeing police in a taxi and then injuring an officer, according to the Elgin Police Department.
Zachary C. Binion, 18, of Elgin, was charged with a Class 4 felony count of resisting or obstruction a police officer causing injury following the incident Tuesday.
According to police, officers were called to the area of Gifford Street High School at about 3:20 p.m. for a male flashing gang signs at students from a nearby intersection. The school liaison officer reported the male was picked up in a taxi, which officers later stopped in the area of Channing and Villa streets in Elgin.
Binion is accused of jumping out of the cab and leading police on a foot chase before being found hiding behind a house on the 300 block of Raymond Street. He again fled through backyards before officers were able to stop him in the area of Raymond and Watch streets. As the officer took Binion down, police said, the officer was injured.
