Congratulations to the single mom who’s getting her master’s degree. I’m sure your son’s very proud of you. My mom was a single mom, too. And she did a wonderful job and there’s nothing wrong with being a single mom. Sometimes it’s best to raise the children without the father, especially if he’s a negative influence. I’m all for a father being a part of the relationship with his son or daughter. But if it’s no good, then sometimes it just doesn’t need to happen. So, again, congratulations on your master’s and doing such a wonderful job with your son.

Miriam, Chicago

I have a message for Rahm Emanuel. Why doesn’t he take all the homeless people in Chicago and house them in the empty schools that he’s left — the ones that he’s still heating and paying for electricity. And I’m sure he can get free food. They’re passing out free food in Chicago anyway. Get the homeless people off the streets. Give them a place to go where they won’t freeze to death and have to lie under bridges and doorways. It’s horrible.

Ron from Glenwood

So Chicago Teachers Union president Karen Lewis is calling Gov. Bruce Rauner, “Scott Walker on steroids.” All the Wisconsin governor did was turn his state’s fortunes completely around. I hope our governor takes those “steroids” every day and has the same success as Walker.

Bob from Oak Forest

It’s too bad that the trustees of Robbins, who are elected to represent the residents, did not allow residents to vote by referendum on such a major issue as the quarry/mine project. This is what Bruce Rauner would refer to as ” business as usual.” I would not want to relocate my home or have a quarry project going on under my home. I think these residents are being scammed. They need to stick together and get organized. If ever there was a time to protest, this is it.

It seems that Michael Moore has come out of hibernation to find fault with the movie “American Sniper.” Maybe he should go back into his cave and keep his ludicrous thoughts to himself and not look for opportunities to get his name back in the media.

Philip, Oak Lawn

I read that Ford Motor employees are getting an average of $6,900 profit-sharing checks March 1 and have received an average of $30,000 since 2011. Does anyone think their cars and trucks are overpriced?

Finally in Washington, a leader emerged, someone who seems tired of waiting for the strongest country to lead as it should. He was trained as a combat ranger in the United States and now runs a small country in the Middle East. He is the leader of Jordan, King Abdullah. The USA elected a man who is a great communicator, but that is all he wants to do. Leadership is not in his blood. War is horrible, wishing it to go away or hoping someone else will fight it for you is misguided.

Orland Park

Shame on you, director Maddie Kelly and the Oak Lawn Park District. Saying that making the parks smoke free is the highlight of your career doesn’t say much for your career. Smokers are not criminals, but they’re taxed at a rate that should be called criminal. Parks are where all the people should be allowed to relax, not just nonsmokers. Wow, highlight of your career? Really?

Whatever happened to the free tickets to the Chicago Auto Show that banks, car dealerships and other businesses used to give out?

Why should rules and regulations favor either side — businesses, workers or customers — when it comes to workers’ compensation or lawsuit damages? I guess Gov. Rauner thinks that if workers get workers’ compensation or those harmed by businesses collect damages it’s anti-business. These things level the playing field for workers and customers when they are harmed.
