President Obama reminds me of what my friends and I thought was a “cool parent.” You know, the parent who let you drink underage in his basement, who knew the latest slang, the good handshakes, the hip clothes. All the while we really just wanted him out of the way so we could be ourselves. My daughter thinks it’s silly how Obama panders to the younger set, looking for admiration and a vote.

With more than 1,100 reported Americans who have joined the ranks of the Islamic State terrorist organization (ISIS) in Syria, America’s southern border is still very easy to enter. Perfect place for these religious terrorists to re-enter our country and cause harm to U.S. citizens. President Obama points to the increase in border arrests during his administration. However, those arrested are told to come back to court at a later date and, of course, they never show up. Both political parties must address this problem and not be concerned how the outcome will effect the Hispanic vote.

You can tell it’s a mayoral election year. All of a sudden, they want to make the Pullman Historic District a national monument after all these years. The people in the Pullman community don’t need a monument, they need jobs to put money in their pocket and feed their families. This is goofy. For the president to come and make a stop in Pullman to announce the monument just to support the mayor, it’s a lame excuse.

As usual, Jesse Jackson Sr. has his face in where it doesn’t belong. He’s blaming everybody but the wrong people for the Jackie Robinson West cheating mess. I feel sorry that the kids lost their national title, but it’s not their fault. The adults let them down and knew what they were doing, but Jesse Jackson is blaming everybody but them.

Does having a “No guns” sign at your place of business keep the bad guys out, or are you just informing employees they are sitting ducks?

To all the readers who think Obama is doing a good job, I am old and go back to when Eisenhower was president. This is the first president we have ever had who plays dead on every crisis in our country and around the world.

Read in the Sun-Times that former Gov. Rod Blagojevich and ex-Enron exec Jeffrey Skilling struck up an acquaintanceship in the slammer. The article said their sentences are considered “over the top” by critics. Well that’s really interesting, considering that the malfeasance committed by Skilling destroyed the financial future of many thousands, and the fiscal destruction wrought on Illinois by Blagojevich will burden our state for decades to come. So much for “over the top.”

I have to say the Daily Southtown now is nothing more than a mini-Tribune. The new format of the larger-sized paper is awful. I’ve always disliked that format, too many stories start at the beginning and have to be dug through the paper to find. And we’re talking about eight or nine pages for the entire paper. I’m really disgusted. Looks like it’s time to cancel the subscription.

I just heard that Larry King said that maybe NBC News anchor Brian Williams could replace Alex Trebek on the “Jeopardy” game show. Why don’t they just bring back the old game show “To Tell the Truth?” Williams would be perfect for that show.

I really get a kick out of watching Fox News criticize Brian Williams. Fox News, which bends the truth daily almost to the point of breaking. People in glass houses …
