GARY—A Brunswick man told police he was wounded late Thursday night as he drove near downtown, a police report states.

Richard Comer, 23, drove himself in his bullet-riddled Oldsmobile Alero to the Methodist Hospitals Northlake campus about 9:40 p.m. Thursday. He had been shot in the buttocks, police said.

Patrolman Nicretia Jones went to the emergency room and spoke to Comer, then located his car in the parking lot. She noted bullet holes in the back window, passenger side door and in the license plate.

Comer told police he was driving near 7th Avenue and Maryland Street when he heard gunshots, the realized he had been shot.

Cpl. Donald Briggs search the area where Comer reported hearing shots and found about 10 spent casings near 6th Avenue and Maryland Street. The casings and two bullets were taken for evidence. Police also recovered car parts that may be related to the shooting.
