Innovators land global conference partner

The Society of Innovators at Purdue Northwest is partnering with the International Business Innovation Association for its 40th International Conference on Business Innovation, according to a release.

The conference, the organization’s largest annual global gathering of entrepreneurship and innovation leaders, will take place April 12-15 at the Radisson Blu Aqua Hotel in Chicago, bringing together leaders from universities, incubators, accelerators, economic development organizations and entrepreneur support programs from around the world, the release said.

The partnership highlights PNW’s growing role in the regional and national conversation around entrepreneurship and innovation. More information about the International Business Innovation Association

Accounting firm director named chair for Alzheimer’s group

After more than a decade of walking in honor of her mother, CPA Lynn Duttlinger has been named chairman of the Executive Leadership Team for the Northwest Indiana Walk to End Alzheimer’s, a release said.

Duttlinger, a Senior Director at CLH, CPAs & Consultants in Michigan City, recently accepted the role and will work alongside business and community leaders to increase awareness and strengthen support
throughout the region for the Alzheimer’s Association, the release said.

In 2025, Duttlinger was recognized as the top fundraiser for the Walk to End Alzheimer’s in Northwest Indiana, including Lake, Porter and La Porte counties, raising more than$10,000. The release said to date,
she has raised more than $70,000 for the association. Duttinger’s mother was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease in 2011, according to the release.

Team Hope is currently raising funds for this year’s walk scheduled for Oct. 3 in LaPorte County.

Travail With Us to host free sickle cell events

Travail With Us will raise awareness for Sickle Cell disease in two free signature events in April, a release said.

The events include a free Sickle Cell Awareness Walk, blood drive and picnic beginning at 9 a.m. April 16 at Hidden Lake Park, 6355 Broadway in Merrillville. The blood drive begins at 9 a.m., and the walk steps off at 10 a.m. A balloon release follows the walk.

Walkers will be treated to an afternoon of food, music and fellowship, while medical professionals offer information and resources, the release said.

The 3rd Annual Sickle Cell Gala will be held at 5 p.m. April 18 at Marquette Park Pavilion, 1 N. Grand Boulevard in Gary. The formal occasion will feature dinner, dancing, networking, speakers and
resources. The community is invited to nominate a “Sickle Cell Warrior” to be honored at the affair by sending an email to Travailwithus@yahoo.com. While there is no cost to attend the gala,

Organic waste management services bids wanted

The Recycling & Waste Reduction District of Porter County is inviting contractors to submit quotes for the grinding of organic brush and wood waste, along with the removal and hauling of materials from four locations within Porter County, according to a release.

The initiative is part of the district’s ongoing efforts to promote sustainable waste management practices. A pre-bid meeting has been scheduled for 9 a.m. April 8 at the Valparaiso Compost Site, 2150 W. Lincolnway. The meeting will cover specific requirements for each location, followed by a guided site visit to each of the four locations in Valparaiso, Chesterton, Portage and Boone Grove.
