Yard work done in Naperville this weekend will pay off when curbside pickup of landscape debris resumes Monday, March 16. As added incentive, there’s an expiration date attached to the yard waste stickers residents may have on hand.
Specially equipped trucks will begin picking up yard waste Monday, circulating the specialized trucks on the same collection schedule as its general trash and recycling collection services. State law forbids the disposal of grass clippings, leaves, garden waste and branches in landfills.
Weeds, twigs, leaves and other landscape materials contained in 32-gallon kraft paper bags, along with branches smaller than 3 inches in diameter and shorter than 4 feet long, bundled with biodegradable twine, will be accepted at the curb until the second week of December. A yard waste sticker must be affixed to each bag or bundle, and each parcel must weigh no more than 60 pounds.
Because the city recently changed its contracted waste hauler, the stickers used now will not be valid after June 30. The new stickers, which will become available when Waste Management starts collections around May 1, will be of a different color and will display the Waste Management logo. The price will remain the same, at $2.10 per sticker.
