Ezekiel Elliott’s and Ohio State fans’ movement to reverse the NCAA’s ban on crop-top jerseys has entered the fourth quarter. A Change.org petition to #SaveTheCropTop has gained more than 75 percent of the 10,000 he’s seeking.

The NCAA issued a statement last week that in the future referees will treat the exposed midriffs, as well as jerseys tucked under shoulder pads, as illegal equipment issues. The player must leave the field for at least one play, unless his team calls a timeout, and he may return to the game when his uniform is fixed.

By Monday morning, the petition asking the NCAA to reverse the ruling had gained more than 7,600 signatures.

Elliott wore a crop top jersey when he blazed through Oregon’s defense for 246 yards during the national championship game. Elliott has promoted the cause from his Twitter account, where he calls himself “the hero in a half shirt.”
