GARY—A quick stop at the gas station turned violent Saturday night when one man was shot by a gunman who started shooting into a car, police said.
Oscar Hicks, 23, was a passenger in a friend’s mother’s car with four other young men about 7:50 p.m. when they stopped at 1700 Harrison St., police said. Occupants of the car told police they saw two men “peeking out” from the convenience store, then a man stepped out and started shooting at the car.
The driver sped away and took Hicks to the Methodist Hospitals Northlake campus emergency room for treatment of a gunshot wound to his elbow.
Police went to the scene and located several spent shell casings outside the store, police said.
