On Saturday, Chicago will experience strong east to northeast winds with gusts at times over 30 mph, along with temperatures in the 40s, showers and possibly a few thunderstorm downpours. Many locations could end up with over an inch of rain before precipitation ends during the evening.

A center of low pressure will track east out of the central Plains on Saturday, moving up the Ohio River Valley with an extensive band of showers and thunderstorms to the north into Wisconsin and Michigan. Along and to the south of the storm track, severe storms with the threat of tornadoes will likely develop and persist well into the evening hours.

With the northwest steering winds aloft, another cool Canadian-source high pressure air mass will follow into the Midwest and western Great Lakes on Sunday. Gusty northeast winds off the cool waters of Lake Michigan will again force readings to struggle just to reach the 50s here with cooler temperatures in the 40s along and inland of the shoreline.
