Women’s clinic: The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission has a free Women’s Fishing Clinic from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. May 16 at John D. MacArthur Beach State Park, 10900 Jack Nicklaus Dr., North Palm Beach. Lessons include knot tying, throwing a cast net, rigging a rod and reel, marine fish and habitat identification and catch-and-release techniques. Hunter safety: The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission has a hunter safety Internet-completion course from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. May 24 at Gun World of South Florida, 1700 South Powerline Rd., Deerfield Beach. Students must complete the Internet course before coming to class and bring a copy of the final report. An adult must accompany children under 16. Ladies Fish-Off: The 30th annual Ladies Fish-Off is May 30 out of Pompano Beach. Only females can fish in the tournament, but men can serve as captains and mates. The kickoff party is May 28 at Galuppi’s. Entry fees are $150 per angler, $80 for juniors 11-16 and $50 for pee-wees 10 and under. After May 20, prices are $175 for adults and $95 for juniors.
