Lake County Sheriff’s deputies made six DUI arrests during a targeted enforcement campaign around the Memorial Day holiday weekend.

In total, the effort netted 179 citations over 12 days from May 14 to May 25 as part of the 2015 national Click It or Ticket mobilization, according to the sheriff’s office.

During eight special details specifically targeting seat belt violations, sheriff’s deputies wrote 85 total citations with 47 of them for seat belt violations. One arrest was made of a driver with an active warrant.

Deputies also set up six special DUI patrols, which resulted in six DUI arrests and a total of 94 citations.

“Memorial Day weekend kicked off summer vacation season and our priority was to ensure that everyone arrived at their destination safe” Sheriff Mark Curran said.

“Notice was given that the Lake County Sheriff’s Office would be cracking down on those not wearing seat belts. Those drivers and passengers who chose not to heed the warning were ticketed,” he said.

The national Click It or Ticket enforcement campaign was timed to begin with increased travel for the Memorial Day weekend. For more information on the Click It or Ticket mobilization, visit http://www.nhtsa.gov/ciot.
