Are you a fan of the popular “Amazing Race” television show?

The Dundee Township Park District is creating its own version and the community is invited to participate.

Called The Pursuit, park officials said the event will promote team building, healthy competition and fun for teams made up of four members.

“It’s like the show in that you’ll go from location to location and there will be clues and you have to answer questions to be able to move forward to the next location,” said Dave Peterson, deputy director of recreation services for the park district. “The first group that finishes gets an award.”

The event is planned for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 22, beginning at Grafelman Park in West Dundee. Ages 10 and up can participate but at least one member of each four-person team must be 18.

“We’re hoping to get families involved,” Peterson said. “And I’m sure there will be some groups of friends who want to participate.”

The cost per team is $80 on or before Saturday, Aug. 1. The cost goes up to $100 per team until the Monday, Aug. 10 registration deadline.

According to park officials, many of the details regarding The Pursuit will be kept confidential until the day of the event. Participants will get their first clue after check-in beginning at 9:30 a.m. Team members should wear comfortable clothes as they’ll be traveling on foot from clue to clue.

Peterson calls The Pursuit “a good community event.”

“And we hope we’ll be able to build on this from year to year and make it bigger and bigger,” he said.
