An Aurora man reported that he was robbed by someone on July 2 as he took out his garbage at an Aurora apartment complex.
The man said he was taking out the garbage around 2 p.m. in the 100 block of South River Street when a white man, about 50 years old, cut him on the ankle with a small pocket knife and then allegedly asked for his wallet.
According to police, the man handed the robber money but refused to give up his wallet. The robber then ran westbound toward River Street.
The robber was further described as wearing a red and black plaid shirt, black shorts and tan boots and had a gray beard.
Aurora Police Department spokesman Dan Ferrelli took to Facebook on Friday to address the report after residents began talking about the alleged attack on social media sites.
“Over the past week, there had been talk on some local social media sites about a report of a man being cut with a knife near some garbage Dumpsters,” Ferrelli said. “As a result of the info posted on social media, Aurora police fielded several calls, emails, and messages.”
On Wednesday, Aurora police posted on Facebook that officers had nothing to substantiate the story and no incident had been reported. Since the alleged victim came forward on Thursday, the case has been assigned to the Investigations Division, Ferrelli said.
Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call Aurora police investigators at 630-256-5500.
