A computer glitch that affected Metra ticket sales during Wednesday morning’s rush period has been fixed, according to the transit agency.

Credit card payments could not be accepted at 73 of Metra’s more than 240 outlying stations, and five downtown because of an apparent computer hardware issue, said Metra spokesman Tom Miller.

As of 9 a.m. the problem has been rectified in all stations, Miller said.

“All downtown terminals are running and able to accept credit cards,” Miller said. Some outlying stations were initially also having problems, Miller added.

Earlier, a statement on Metra’s website said: “Metra system wide manned ticket agencies are not able to process ticket purchases at this time.” Metra is waiving the penalty it normally charges customers who purchase tickets on the train.
